Notice of Sorrow

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the off-duty death of Life Member John McCormack. John was 44 years old and died due to complications related to a medical procedure. He was kicking colon cancer’s butt when he died. John was a federal agent here in Richmond and was heavily involved in the local community. If you ever went to the Church Hill Irish Festival or Central VA Highland Games and Celtic Festival you would have seen him with a hurley stick in his hand and he was trying to convince you join him in the sport of hurling. Please keep his wife and son and all of his family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult times.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday March 1, 2019 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Baptist Church (4247 Creighton Road Richmond, VA 23223).

His family has asked that in lieu of flowers anybody that would like to make a donation in remembrance of John please do so by using the below donation button or by mailing a check to MRPES:

At this time the Virginia State Police Association is accepting donations in the names of the family. If you go to their website you can use their PayPal site and donate. If you do please make sure to put in the comment line which family you would like to support or if you would like it equally disbursed between the two. Their link is: http://vspa.org/initiatives/emergency-relief-fund

Also, we have a tab in our web-store (shop.mrpes.org) for each family or you can use our PayPal link too. Again if you use PayPal please designate the family (or both) that you would like to support. The web-store tabs will automatically designate the family.

Update June, 11, 2017:

We want to take a moment to update everybody on how things stand with the Fundraiser for S/A Walter’s family. We are still in the planning stages. A venue has been chosen, but we are waiting on them to confirm before we pick a date and release those details. The artwork for the coins and shirt are being done now and will be approved by the family soon. As soon as the artwork is approved we will start pre-selling them on our website.

As for donations, we can not express enough gratitude for the generous outpouring of donations. We have already provided the family with some much needed funds and are about to do so again. The support from the community has been overwhelming.

We are still collecting donations so if you wish to donate feel free to check out how at the below link. This link is also updated with the latest on where things stand with the fundraiser, shirts and coins. Thanks again for all your support.

Posted May 28, 2017:

There have been many questions about how people can help the family of VSP Special Agent Michael Walter. Currently, the VSPA and MRPES are accepting donations. We are in the beginning stages of planning a fundraiser and possibly selling t-shirts and challenge coins. Anything that we do will be coordinated with the family.

At this time they are overwhelmed with what has occurred and planning the funeral. Thus any fundraising we do outside of donations will not be until well after the funeral. If you would like to donate money now you can go to the below PayPal button or mail a check to the below address. Please note on your donation that it is for Special Agent Walter.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized.
